Butterfly Dragon Design by ShaidySkyDesign Butterfly Dragon Design by ShaidySkyDesign
I was playing around with my butterfly dragon design. I wanted to make it more unique and more butterfly like. I love this version! I added another set of legs and more detail in the face. I also reshaped the head with a more angled forehead and pointed snout. I think this is the best version yet and will make more in this style.

This is a black and pink butterfly dragon with a white marble orb. The marble is removable so you can switch it out for another marble, die, or pendant. It has a gloss glaze for added durability. It stands 3 inches tall and is about 2 inches long.Made from Polymer clay and glass beads for eyes.

This dragon is currently available in my etsy shop

Do you have some kind of tool to make the coils, or just skills? They are amazing *^*

This particular design is very detailed and intricate. I would recommend you start with a more simple design and work your way up to something like this. For any dragon I make no matter how simple or complex I start with sketching. Once I have a look I like I build an armature. Depending on the shape and size of the design I might use just tinfoil, or just wire or both together. I also wrap my armatures in masking tape to give the clay something to stick too. Then I add clay in simple shapes that I can manipulate into more complex shapes. The scales and details are all added individually and start as little tiny balls that I roll into shape with my fingers. Honestly the best way to do what I do is just take the plunge and sketch and sculpt a lot and eventually you will develop a style and technique that works best for you.

Giving it 6 legs was a good idea. It makes it so much more unique. I also like the little swirl on the wingtip you added.

Yeah I love the extra set of arms....can't wait to make more, but I don't know how the extra arms will effect different poses...

It'll make just a plain old sitting down pose interesting. Because you'd have to make enough space to put the second set of folded up arms along the body.
